Come and celebrate Boxcar Books' 8th anniversary as Bloomington's only volunteer powered, non-profit bookstore and community space!

For 8 long years, Boxcar Books has been the place in Bloomington to gather progressive ideas and get hard to find new and used books of all kinds. But that's not all! We've been an active free venue for local and national touring authors, radicals, and performers, as well as a free meeting space for tons of local activist, literary, and community groups.. We're the main supporter for The Midwest Pages to Prisoners Project, and a modest bridge between the Bloomington community and IU.

And now we're taking on our biggest project yet: A crazy cupcake party to celebrate the success of the past 8 years, in the middle of a two-day Valentine's Day Sale. You get 20% off books with any red or pink on the cover! Seriously, the tiniest strip or hint will do.

Boxcar has proven that eight years of dedication and hard work really do pay off. We've grown by leaps and bounds, but have remained sustainable, relevant to the community, and hip with the kids. And now we're a place where you can come eat cupcakes with us and celebrate the whole mess.
