Instructors

Welcome instructors!  Thank you for considering Boxcar Books as an alternative to corporate textbook orders!

Why order through Boxcar?

Boxcar Books is a volunteer-powered, non-profit organization that funds the literacy organization The Midwest Pages to Prisoners Project.  Please see the rest of Boxcar's website for more information on Boxcar, or go to www.pagestoprisoners.org for more information on The Midwest Pages to Prisoners Project.  We also pride ourselves in offering personalized service for both you and your students, as Boxcar Books carries a maximum of 70 courses per semester.

Ordering requirements

Textbooks are ordered on a first come, first serve basis and complete orders are due by the following deadlines:

Fall Semester- July 1  (Second 8 weeks courses- September 5)

Summer I- April 10

Summer II- May 10

Spring Semester- November 1 (Second 8 weeks courses- January 5)

Boxcar is happy to carry textbooks for graduate and undergraduate courses, and for classes of all enrollments.

To place your order

Orders must be received through e-mail by the above deadlines.  Orders received after the dates above will not be processed.

All orders must be e-mailed to Abbey Friedman, Boxcar's Buyer, at abbey@boxcarbooks.org and include the following information:

*Course number and title

*Enrollment

*Title and author of each book

*ISBNs if you have them (They are helpful, but not necessary.)

*Any pertinent edition information

*If each book is required or recommended

Used Textbooks

Boxcar uses several distributors to obtain used copies of textbooks.  Used textbooks are always ordered first and all available copies are displayed at the beginning of the semester.  Unfortunately, sometimes used copies are just not available.

Desk Copies

Boxcar Books is happy to order desk copies for you.  When placing your order via e-mail, please specify which book(s) you will need desk copies of and how many copies of each title if there are multiple instructors.  In order to place orders for desk copies, I will need to know your IU mailing address, e-mail, phone number, department, and all course and enrollment information.  Desk copies can also be ordered by your department secretary and we are happy to provide any ordering information the publisher requires.
